The first tour I saw them on was in 1988. That means that I've been going to see them for 20 years. I've been going to see them play for more than half my lifetime.
Isn't there some common law rule I could enforce...?
Heh... I remember this tour too... I saw them at After The Gold Rush in Tempe, AZ... July of 1990. Flood tour. The only thing on the stage besides the Johns were a bunch of gigantic postage stamps. The sole accompaniment to Lie Still Little Bottle was the "Rock Metronome" - it was explained that the Metronome was a more stage-friendly alternative to The Stick, which I guess pissed off some club owners.
I went over to the club in the afternoon, as soon as I got out of school, and walked right in the back door to find the Johns playing chess in an area that resembled a dressing room. They were really friendly, but I had to leave so they could do an interview with the radio station. When I listened to it later, I laughed at Linnell's response to the question, "What's your favorite of your songs?": "If we picked a favorite, we would hurt all the other songs' feelings!"
Chess. Of course. Because that's what all rock stars do before shows. Yeah, those were the days when they would hang out before and after the show. Well... Not Linnell so much, but it wasn't unusual to see Flans hanging out out at the t-shirt stand.
You know, if 2008 Flans wants a sammich, I'd be happy to oblige. I'm just saying.
