Video: What was the first R-rated movie you saw (or were allowed to see)?
Submitted by Lisa.
When I was 11, "An American Werewolf in London" was released. Now, I've always had this dark, twisted sense of humor, and was not squeamish about horror movies, even at that age. My parents went to see it, and from their description, I thought I would love it. I begged to see it. It was rated R for every reason a movie could be rated R - naughty language, extreme violence, nudity, etc. My mom refused. I begged, begged, begged. Much refusal.
Then when my cousin (who is a mere year older than I am) came to visit and revealed she had seen it, my mom relented. She took me (only me... my sisters couldn't handle it) to see it. I LOVED it. It was gruesome, to be sure, but so funny. I remember practically falling out of my seat when [SPOILER] poor dead Jack showed up, his throat laid open, wanting a piece of toast off of David's breakfast plate. When he picked up the Mickey Mouse doll and said in a high squeaky voice, "Hi David!" I freaking lost it, and collapsed into teary guffaws. It was really, really scary, too, though. Not the kind of slasher-movie "scary" I despise, but truly frightening. It was the best of both worlds for me, the "perfect storm" of movies.
To this day, that movie is one of my favorites. It still holds up, too; those pre-CGI effects were awesome, and actually trump a lot of the stuff that's out there today.
So I would now like to take this opportunity to publicly thank my mom for taking me to this movie that was clearly not meant for 11-year-old girls. That was really cool.
Book: What book are you most ashamed you haven't read?

First, let me say that my major in college was English. This makes the following confession all the more embarrassing. I haven't read The Grapes of Wrath. Let me also say that I wrote a paper on The Grapes of Wrath my junior year in high school. That's right. I didn't read the book and I wrote a paper on it. No, didn't use CliffsNotes, either. The night before the paper was due, I decided what my thesis would be, flipped through the book for passages that supported my thesis, wove a bunch of strong statements and adjectives around it, and turned the sucker in.
B+ baby.
Gosh, Mom, imagine what I would have accomplished if I applied myself!

This is "Louise" by Oingo Boingo, and as far as I know, was never commercially released. This isn't the version I love most, though. I have a version from a live KROQ broadcast from the Whisky-A-Go-Go in the early '80s (Thanks Mike!) when they were still "The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo." Then they shortened it to "Oingo Boingo." Then it was just "Boingo." If they had lasted longer, I expect they would have eventually become just "O." But I digress. Unfortunately, that CD is packed away somewhere, so this version comes from Lordleiter.
I remember listening to this with a friend. I was taking French at the time and she said, "What's he saying?" I said, "I don't know." She said, "You're taking French, aren't you?" I said, "I can't understand what Elfman is saying in English half the time and you want me to translate his French?!"
Good times.
Video: Show us a clip from your current favorite TV show.
Gosh, which show would I choose... which show would I choose...? Hmm. Well, nothing comes to mind, so let me just pick a show, you know, like, randomly.
Video: Show us a great music video.
SO predictable:
Video: Show us a clip from your favorite cartoon.
It's hard to narrow down my "favorite" cartoons, as I love different cartoons for different reasons. Some are beautiful, while others are hilarious. I'm also going to define "cartoon" as "animated short," rather than "animated feature film." So rather than analyze it to death and try to be all independent and contrary, I'm going to post the two that immediately came to mind. Both are Chuck Jones. As much as I love me the Disney, Chuck Jones pretty much kicks Walt's frozen ass in the animated short department.
This one makes me cry, but it's so good. I couldn't find a clip online (unless you count the French one on YouTube), but it's about this big "vicious" bulldog who befriends an adorable kitten.
UPDATE: Angry Tiki found it on Google Video. Thanks, Angry!
And then there's "What's Opera Doc," which includes the immortal, "KILL THE WABBIT! KILL THE WABBIT! KILL THE WAAAAAAABBIT!" (This is hosted on Yahoo, and takes forever to load...)

This is one of my favorite pictures I took in Japan a couple of years ago:
Show us something with a bite taken out of it.
P.S. Has anyone seen the inserts to my Cupcake Courier? I think they may have been tossed... I'd be so sad...
